Saint Bede, known as the Venerable Bede, was an English Benedictine monk, historian, and scholar. Born in Northumbria, he entered the monastery of Wearmouth-Jarrow as a child and spent his life in study, teaching, and writing. Bede's most famous work, The Ecclesiastical History of the English People, earned him the title "Father of English History" for its detailed account of early Christianity in England.
A master of Latin, Greek, and Hebrew, Bede wrote extensively on theology, science, and chronology, including his work on the calculation of the date of Easter. Renowned for his piety and learning, he was declared a Doctor of the Church in 1899. Bede’s feast day is celebrated on May 25, and his legacy endures as a symbol of faith and scholarship.
